Cafe Prince

Title 01
Project Year 2024
Giving energy, not taking it. That is Cafe Prince's guiding ethos and one that flows through every aspect of the cafe from ingredients to interior design. First it was a carrot, raw and wrapped in tissue paper as a simple gesture to offer nutrient-dense foods instead of the standard muffin and cookie coffee shop. Then, brazil nuts wrapped in figs, homemade sourdough pizzas and produce grown from their very own garden. Cafe Prince is not only offering good food, they are transforming the city, sparking conversations, and building community around health and vitality.

Title 01
Initially, I thought the Cafe Prince carrot was a post-modern jab at capitalism. Raw and wrapped in checkerboard tissue paper I thought it was a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the ways in which society dangles incentives to consume, advance, achieve.
What I learned after getting to know the team was that they never aspired to be a typical coffee shop slinging cookies and muffins. Through the offering a simple, 'nude' carrot, they were a literal lifeline in this former food desert, delivering nutrients and vitality to the surrounding community.
